AWS Services Overview
Amazon Web Services is a subsidiary of Amazon.com that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms to individuals, companies and governments, on a paid subscription basis — Wikipedia
All the Amazon Web Services are build upon its global infrastructure. So it is highly benificial to understad this AWS global infrasture before talking about individual services offered by AWS.
Global infrastructure (Physical Locations)
AWS global infrastructure can be categorized into three : Regions, Availability Zones (AZ’s) and edge locations. There are about 22 AWS regions (by 2018), 61 availability zones (AZ’s) and about 114 edge locations.
Region: A region is a actual geographical area. For an example Ohio, North virginia, Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney are some AWS regions. And keep in mind that a region is a vast area spreaded over of Hundreds of kilometers. And AWS keeps installing more and more regions across the globe over the years.
Availability Zones (AZ’s): A Region consist of two or more Availability Zones. That is, AZ’s are actual inside a region. And these AZ’s are installed isolatedly over great distances within a region.
